Creating a Vision Board for 2019

Let us figure out what it is that we want
so we can move closer to our goals
as they move closer to us.

Vision boarding is a way to create a physical manifestation of what we want. It’s about putting in our requests, our desires, out into the world for ourselves and for the universe to see in front of us.

However, this particular exercise is as much about figuring out and telling the universe what we are striving for as planting the seeds for us to get ourselves there.

Yes, we are putting the request to the universe to reach our goals, but we are also responsible for taking steps to get there.

And all at the same time, it’s about letting go of any ties to specific things that need to occur to bring us happiness. Our goals can change and we also need to keep ourselves open for wonderful positive life surprises.

Let’s get started!

Firstly, I invite you to take some time to reflect. Start by celebrating last year and acknowledging what has happened to get you where you are right now.

Fold a sheet of paper into 4 squares for a total of 8 boxes front and back. Write out your accomplishments this year in these 8 different areas of self-care. What is something you did that you are proud of for taking care of yourself in each of these areas.

  1. Psychological/Mental Health Self Care
  2. Physical Self Care
  3. Sexual Self Care
  4. Emotional/Relationships Self Care (Includes: Relationship with self, self-love, Friendships, Family, Romantic Partnerships, Pets)
  5. Workplace Self Care
  6. Homelife Self Care
  7. Spiritual Self Care
  8. Financial Self Care

It’s great to look back and reflect on how far we’ve come and all that we have accomplished. Now let’s use this starting place and visualize what we would like for ourselves next year.

What is one thing (at least) that you would like to accomplish in each of these 8 areas of self-care in the new year? Write these out onto another sheet of paper and get specific. Maybe you want to exercise more in the new year. Is it that you want to get active at least three times a week? Once a week? Do you want to save more money? How much? This will be your outline for your vision board.

The last prep step to take: what is the one word that represents what you want to cultivate for yourself in all aspects of life in this new year? What is your sun sign theme word for the year? What is something you are working towards, with, continuing to do. This is your guiding word for the new year and with creating your vision board.

If you aren’t sure immediately you can still keep going with these next steps, but try one for now and change it if/when something else feels more right.

Next, go through magazines and found pieces of the universe to locate what it is you want and have described earlier in your visualizations. This is a relaxed practice were you can cut things out that speak to you in general and with what you’ve outlined. You are looking for images, photos, words, phrases, and beyond.

There may be things that you want to include to be more specific about in your requests and desires so after you look through your magazines and other found objects, you can search online for images to print out that reflect your more specific goals.

Lastly, once you have everything represented arrange them on your cardboard paper and start sticking! Using tape is easier and lasts longer, but really do it how you individually want. It’s about you. Make sure to have that theme word highly visible!
